Now, More Than Ever,
I Need My Dog
The world’s gone a little crazy, don’t you think? For me, listening to the news is like riding a bucking bronco, and I’m about to be bucked off.
Thank goodness for Quinn, my almost 16-year-old, four-legged, Zen partner, master of mindfulness, and role model of peace and contentment.
On our hikes, Quinn always takes time to smell the… pretty much everything. When bothered by something such as an overly rambunctious puppy, he simply shakes it off, literally. There’s no muttering, judgment, or holding a grudge.
He doesn’t sweat the “what if’s” in life, other than when I pull out a suitcase.
Quinn expresses joy and gratitude, such as when I pull his leash from the drawer or offer him a favorite treat. And his tail flags like high-speed window wipers when he sees something he loves — a kitty cat, my grandchildren, his favorite human and dog friends.
Quinn is my relaxation coach. When we snuggle on the couch, he rolls over, directing me to rub his chest. Then he readily falls into a deep REM sleep, as evidenced by his paddling legs and twitching lips.
During these tumultuous times, Quinn is the salve for my news-battered brain and my go to source for unconditional love. Now, more than ever, I need my dog. How about you?

Same here. My dog, Luca, is also my zen leader. A teacher in presence, gratitude, unconditional love and so much more. We don’t deserve dogs, but we’re so fortunate to have them.
Such a simple yet lovely post about your love connection with a sweet Quinn! Keep on posting and we will keep on reading! I would LOVE to see a discussion on pancreatitis since my Chihuahua became sick after him eating suet droppings (pure fat!) from my bird feeders. Of course, I want to blame this on that instead of owning up to the fact that I also fed him human food from time to time! If I may, I write about about lost pet recovery work and just posted last week about a CRITICAL fact that most people who pull over to rescue a loose / stray dog do not realize--that CALLING a loose / stray dog can KILL THAT DOG! I am trying to spread the word as much as I can so I hope you're OK that I share the link here. If not, please delete: https://armedrobbers2airedales.substack.com/p/do-not-call-a-loose-stray-dog
