Puppy Mill Legislation
Your Help Is Needed!
We have an opportunity to help hundreds of thousands of dogs serving life sentences in puppy mills. I ask you to reach out to your state representatives and encourage them to vote in favor of the Puppy Protection Act (Bill H.R. 1624). It will only take a few minutes.
If passed, the Puppy Protection Act will require puppy millers to provide:
Increased enclosure sizes to allow dogs to stretch out.
Solid flooring as opposed to wire flooring.
Continuous access to potable water.
Exercise. Most puppy mill dogs live in cages or small enclosures 24/7.
Consistent feeding. Talk about a basic need!
Better protection from extreme temperatures.
Meaningful socialization with humans and compatible dogs for at least 30 minutes each day.
Adequate veterinary care.
Breeding limits, so dogs are not bred on every single heat cycle.
Reasonable efforts to rehome retired dogs instead of discarding or killing them.
While eradication of puppy mills altogether is the ideal outcome, the Puppy Protection Act stands to make a difference.
Please call or write your state representatives — better yet, do both — and urge them to pass bill H.R. 1624. By the way, this a bipartisan bill! Here’s a sample letter you can use along with a quick, easy way to find your representative’s phone number and email address. I’ve heard representatives say that, even just a few phone calls and emails from constituents are influential.
Once you’ve contacted your state representative, please let me know.
Thank you for helping puppy mill dogs!

I just sent an email to Donald Payne Jr, my representative in NJ to please Support HR1624 Puppy Protection Act.
