I have a 5 yo Siberian, after reading the link spayneuteradvice .com I decided to find a suitable vet that would perform a vasectomy. Found 1 vet in NJ that would do it. At 9 mths he had his vasectomy and I don’t regret it at all. He has a fabulous temperament. #1 he’s a well-bred dog not from a puppy mill or a byb. He has no health problems or concerns. My previous Siberian from the same breeder was castrated at 7 mths. Cruciate ligament rupture at 3.5 yo and his other knee CCL rupture 6 mths later, thyroid problems, autoimmune issues then developed Hemangiosarcoma around 8. Passed away at 9yrs old. 🥲

I went ahead and got my dog spayed and now she has health issues but her breed is not on your list as a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with Idk but it appears to be she might be also a lab. A friend of mine says her dog got sick because she was not spayed and I assumed it was a female dog issue rather than breed.

This is so interesting to me. I have an 80 pound male. He is a Bernedoodle which I hesitate to say because I know there are many thoughts on doodles and most are not positive. My vet advised me to wait at least two years before I neutered him. She was concerned about his joints and wanted him to keep his testosterone for muscle as long as we could. He is now 4 1/2 and not aggressive. But he is scheduled to be neutered in 3 weeks because I am getting concerned about cancer. I am dreading putting him through this but I think the time is right. I might find the study and see if it changes my mind

Hi Carole. How fortunate that your veterinarian is on board with current research. I hope this research will help you make your decision. Be sure to go to the study and read the specifics about Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Best wishes to you.

Hi Jane. I love Irish Setters! They were so popular early on in my career, and now I rarely see them. Definitely educate yourself about neutering your dog. Take a peek at my website spayneuteradvice.com.

This is so interesting. I will sit and read the study later. I have had 4 Irish Red setters. Three girls and my current boy. All the girls were spayed. All the girls had cancer. Meg had lymphoma and we lost her at only 5. Gem had three lots of cancer and low thyroid and cushings. She was such a determined dog and still got to 13. Tammy had cancer too. Riley is our current boy and has epilepsy but otherwise so far 🤞he had to have one testicle removed at about 3 as it was undescended. We had to wait as we were trying to get his epilepsy under control. It is well controlled now. Our usual vet is not pushing us for castration but the others in the practice say we should have had it done and make us feel so guilty.
